Do they give you a first, introductory dive on the resort before you go out to the open sea?

Yeah all resorts prepare you with a first introductory dive on the lagoon in which they teach you the basic things you need to know in order to scuba dive later on way cooler places. You will always have a professional with you to lead you halfway so there's nothing to worry about either.
