They used to be buddhists at first but right now the maldives are a 100% muslim country, Yet they are very peaceful and good people, only thing they have some rules like not bringing in pork, alcohol (which the hotels provide anyway) and no nudity. For the rest you are as free as a bird in the Maldives :D
